Hi There,

I think it's wonderful that you are willing to take in this special kitty. If you can get him to the vet before you even take him home it would be to his advantage. You want to find out if he is diabetic and what type of diet is right for him. It's also important that he loses weight slowly, otherwise he might be at risk for liver issues. The very best diet will probably be canned food, as this type of diet is closer to natural for cats. Dog food is very bad for cats.......they can develop vision problems and heart problems if they eat it.

When you get this new addition home, it will be best if he has his own room with all the necessities. This is the best way to monitor appetite and litterbox use. If he doesn't eat for even one day, because of his obesity, he will be at high risk for fatty liver disease, so you will have to contact the vet.

Good luck, and please let us know how he does!

Regards,
PHKitkat
