i have a 15y.o. male cat in good health. he is one out of a 3 cat household but 2 of the cats are gone now and he is the only cat now. he always got along great with the other cats..my question is: should i introduce a new kitten or another adult cat? or should i scrap the idea and let my 15y.o. live out his adult years by himself.

heres some background info...
we've had the 3 cats for the last 15 years. two 15 year olds and one was 19. 2 of our cats had to be put down this past year. one was diabetic and despite our efforts to help her she quickly deteriorated. she was put down in may 2011. the other one had a cancerous tumor in her bladder that ended up blocking her urethra. we put her down in october 2011.

so now i have 1 male cat. he's 15 years old and in good health. he has always been around our 2 other cats his whole life and he got along great with them. but now that they are gone he has changed. he definitly misses them and he still looks around for them. he seems lonely...actually, he will never be lonely as long as i'm around since i give him so much love and attention that i think he's starting to get over me. he sometimes walks the other way when i come towards him to pet him...lol.

i want to get another cat or kitten so he can have a new friend and also for me to liven things up around here and change the depressing mood from losing the other 2 cats so close together in time.
