Yesterday, I found a baby snake in my backyard, which I later identified as a Northern Ring-Neck snake. She is about 7 inches long and about as thin as a hair-tie. I kept her overnight in a small (probably around 4 gallons) tank and right now she is slithering around on my lap. She, who I am just calling a she, as I do not really know for certain, seems fairly calm around people and active, as well as healthy. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody here has experience in taking care of Ringneck snakes, especially young ones. I know that they need a 5 or so gallon tank, heating pad, day/night bulbs, good soil, among many other things like earthworms for food, but I was wondering if, first of all, they even make good pets, as well as what the best way to take care of a juvenile is, and if keeping a wild snake is worth the effort, or if I should just release it. I have admittingly never kept snakes before, though I have kept other reptiles such as bearded dragons and various tortoises, and I have always been interested in and done research on different species of snakes. Also, if you have any other tips on the husbandry of baby ringneck snakes, it would be very much appreciated.
