Were they both males, or could "Bob" have been a female?
Any change to a snake's environment can elicit stress. Also, this idea we were all taught that snakes are complete loners is not true in every case. Snakes kept together can become accustomed to one another, and when one leaves, it does cause a reaction.
In time, my guess is that the snake will settle in and return to a typical ball python attitude.
