Everything in the other post is true. What animals are you talking about? Wild, domestic, exotic? I'm a rehabber in Texas and we are required to have a state permit for wild mammals and if wild birds are accepted, a federal permit is needed also. Many states don't require permits for wild mammal rehab/rescue. Most native wild mammals and birds are protected by state or federal laws. In Texas most turtles species are not protected so permits are not needed unless you have a certain number in your possession at one time. Federal permits are needed if endangered or threatened species are accepted. You need to contact your state wildlife or conservation department to find out regulations. If you talk to someone who doesn't sound sure keep trying until you find out something definite. It's amazing how many government employees in these depts. don't know anything. If you are talking about domestic dog or cat rescue, the only thing I can think of would be city ordinances on how many allowed at a residence. Those types of ordinances are usually not enforced unless a neighbor complains.
