I have been working with reptiles for almost 6 years and am now interested in starting a in-home shelter for them. I volunteer for a Sanctuary upstate and the questions I have cannot be answered by them. They run off of private funding a hardly ever any donations, they remain private and prefer to stay that way. They rarely ever adopt out, the reptiles that come are usually there to stay. That being said, I have questions about funding. How and where do I look for funding and donations? Word of mouth has started and in the last week I have gotten 2 more "kids" and at this rate I will be broke and then what? I need to apply for a 501C3, but until that is complete is there anything I can do? Any thoughts and advice from others running rescue homes would be appreciated.
