Hello everyone,

I recently received a copy of McGuire's monograph on the phylogenetic systematics of crotaphytid lizards. Although I have not read the bulletin in its entirety, I can't help to wonder whether his findings are widely accepted now or not. According to McGuire (1996), there are nine (9) distinct species of collared lizards (and at least 3 leopards):

C. reticulatus
C. collaris
C. antiquus
C. nebrius
C. dickersonae
C. grismeri
C. bicinctores
C. vestigium
C. insularis

As I said, I have not finished reading his results (published in 1996), but I have been unable to find a source of current nomenclature showing valid names (as well as accepted subspecies). Someone suggested the Integrated Taxonomic Information System, as it is said to be a current authority on this subject. I
have also tried to access Systema Naturae, as well as the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, both without success. The EMBL Database looks great, but does not mention C. dickersonae, for example.

Does anyone know the current status of the crotaphytidae?

Regards,
