Is the study involving the three subspecies accepted by international authorities? Has it, for example, been submitted to the ICZN for review? It seems that naming multiple subspecies on the basis of "insignificant" factors (such as color) is becoming a more frequent occurrence. This also happens to collared lizards, where a comprehensive phylogenetic study of systematics is replaced by other studies where the different "subspecies" do not even appear to be in different phylogenetic trajectories.
