I used to have a holaspis guentheri (or laevis; can't tell the difference from the photos I've seen online) but s/he died recently. I got her/him (couldn't tell difference) from a local pet store that hasn't had any since that time (2002). I strongly suspect that I had too many medium-sized crickets in the cage with Lizzy and they killed her, but can't really say.

Were you able to tame your holaspis lizard? Mine was extremely skittish and hated being captured to take her out of her cage so I could clean it (once every couple of months -- I didn't do this often because it upset her). She lost her tail once when my son was trying to catch her to take her out for cage cleaning. (It really freaked him out to see the wiggling tail!)

She lived for 3 years with us and was a lovely lizard, though we didn't see her very much (she preferred to hide under the "cave" rock and plant dishes). When we first got her, we lost her after 2 days because she managed to get out of her cage. We thought she was a goner because we didn't find her after a few days. But 10 days later, my daughter saw something move out of the corner of her eye, and we found Liz sitting on a pillow -- she was weak and we easily caught her and put her in a more secure cage. She drank water and ate crickets immediately. She seemed to have survived that incredible experience well, but I wonder if that might have had something to do with her early death.... having weakened her constitution, being without food and water for so long.
