Hi there:
I have a female albino clawed frog that is absolutely colossal. I bought her about 4 years ago when she was just a little baby. I have heard all different opinions on how you should care for these frogs, and I am just checking to make sure I have the setup right. She is on the bottom level of a dark shelf in my reptile room. It is very warm in there. I read that they do fine at room temperature, and especially because my room is so warm all of the time, I do not use a heater. She is in a ten-gallon, all-glass aquarium, with some pea gravel on the bottom, a large rock to hide in, and part of the tank is a bundle of plants for her to hide in, and climb out on to rest. I do not use filtration. I frequently change the water, to replace it with more bottled spring water. I read that their lateral lines are really sensitive to the vibrations of filters. I also do not use light. Do they need light? Some sites say they need a 14-hour photoperiod, while others say they do not require light, as they are nocturnal. Mine only seems to move around at night. I'd think that being frogs living in stagnant ditches, this type of aquarium would be quite suitable.
So is it OK to keep them using nothing electric?
Am I doing a good job? ----- DAVE
