Howdy all! Wellp, I "obtained" my first pair of hatchling K. bauri from a moron (and I do mean MORON) at a Casper (WY) pet shop almost a year ago - They were in horrid conditions, and most the less-then-quarter-sized babies were more then dead, especially with the help of their tank mates - The silver dollar sized snappers. I told the guy that these kiddos were all probably going to die, and promptly made an offer on the remaining two (for less then half of what he was selling them for). (And YES people, this idiot has been busted for these penny turtles, although he is still in business - My next quest will be to stop his sales of baby American alligators). ANYWAY... They survived in spite of it all, and are thriving very well.... (Personally I'm a bit surprised, too, that more people aren't as thrilled with this species - They're small, active, beautiful, and heck a bit easier to care for then say a RES ).

I now have a new set of adults (mix of LTCs and CBs) lined up and I want to get everything I can in information for the future. I can find just about anything I want on their care and husbandry, except a few details on breeding... Namely its their breeding cycles, temps, and incubation... So any information on the following questions would be VERY much appreciated!

1) What is the temp range for incubation (including the sex determining temps... Eg: "this range for males," this range for females," "this range for a potluck of both"?

2) What, if any, special needs might these guys need in way of temp changes to stimulate breeding?

3) Some say peatmoss, some say vermiculite, some say sphagnum, some say wet soil, some say a mixture of each - Whats your favorite medium for both egg laying and incubation?

4) Who else breeds these kiddos? I'd like to get a little network going with people that are serious about this. That way if anything "odd" pops up we can breed for whatever gene that is while keeping the bloodlines diverse (I know I've seen a hypo looking 3-liner, would like to know if theres anything else out there).
