Everything you discribed sounds pretty normal. As long as your hatchling/yearling is active and is producing waste every day or so, it must be eating OK.
Some species do eat more than others and so comparing them isn't a reliable indicator of health. For instance, I recently had some hatchling I. elongata and they ate, literally, three times what my hatchling redfoots ate even though they were the same age and size. The elongata would also eat all day long if you would let them. It was a real shock to me to have hatchlings gorge the way they did. But then, they also grew at a much faster rate than the redfoots too.
