How critical is it if the egg is laid on moist vermiculite? I read this post and placed the egg my 3-month in captivity WC Phelsuma laticauda laticauda laid yesterday onto moist vermiculte. I'd read several posts that it shouldn't be laid on a moist substrate but on something that is dry. I'm sure the egg is a dud as she doesn't have a mate with her. Would it be possible that this second egg may be fertile from retained sperm prior to her being caught and kept in captivity? The first egg she laid was just dropped onto the cage, this one was carefully held onto for two hours at the base of a bromeliad. Please advise.
