>>I've noticed more shedding in my painted, as well as a ton of more basking.... the room that he is in is airconditioned and he gets the same amount of light each day, so he can't tell that fall is coming on... I'd assume it might be a biological clock, but I'm no biologist, so I'm not one to say for sure.

Same deal here. The house in air conditioned, he gets the same amount of light each day, doing a lot of basking right now... he doesn't know when the seasons change. He's captive bred and has been adult sized for the last 6 years or so. I've noticed in the 6 years he always seems to shed in the fall.
He shed a lot more often when he was growing up than he does now.
He had a spot on his carapace that looked odd to me but never looked infected, now he has shed off that spot so I guess it was nothing.
