THE STAR (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) 01 December 05 Scratched by fangs of a king cobra (G.C. Tan) Jitra: A finger of part-time snake catcher Norizan Ahmad was scratched by the fangs of a 4m-long king cobra while giving a demonstration yesterday. The 36-year-old lorry driver was trying to show the writer how to handle a snake after catching it in a storeroom at Kampung Wang, Padang Sera, near here, when the incident occurred. Despite blood oozing out from his left index finger, Norizan, who has caught more than 100 Asiatic cobras, showed no signs of pain. He only sought treatment from a bomoh nearby after completing his demonstration and returned 10 minutes later for a cup of tea. “I am alright now, don't worry, the bomoh has helped me to get rid of the venom from my left index finger,” he said when asked how he felt. Norizan, who started catching snakes three years ago, said he went to catch the king cobra after receiving a call from one of his friends, adding that he would sell the snake to a licensed dealer.
