I've been wanting to get a day gecko for a few months now and have narrowed it down to three. 1.The Peacock Day Gecko 2.The Gold-Dust Day Gecko 3.and the Madagascar Giant Day Gecko. I'm fairly particular to the second two. Which of these three is the hardiest? And are any of these three nasty at all? like do they bite and constantly try to run away even if i have tried to get it to warm up to me. And which of the three do you recomend to a Day Gecko beginner? I've had many other geckos, and blue tongue skinks, not to mention chameleons, savanna monitors and salamanders, so i'm not new to reptiles in general. I'd like to get a gecko in the next few days, and help is greatly appreciated. The Gold Dust and Peacock are similar in habit and size and both look good. They are fairly small, I keep 2 gold dust in one 10 gallon on its side and they are doing great (laying eggs). A 20 would be better though. They are skittish and will hide but if you keep them in a well visited are (like a desk) they will become used to you. You shouldn't hold any day gecko, since their skin is delicate. Though some people do successfully. (same gos for the Giant Day Gecko) The Giant Day Gecko requiers a lot more room and does not get as brightly colored but they do get bigger and can get used to you.
All are fairly hardie and will not bite, in my experiance. And should get used to you with exposure.
I would suggest either a gold dust or giant day gecko. If you want something easily seen from a distance and don't care about the space, get a Giant. If you want a colorful one (though there are some blue giants) and want a smaller cage get a Gold Dust. This assumes that any of them will get used to people and not hide all of the time.
