Cherry Heads and substrate.

I have a group of 5, 3" Cherry Heads. Today I changed the substrate from newspaper to peat moss. As soon as I put them in the enclosure they started eating the peat. Now has any one had a problem like this or is it not a problem. Any one forsee any possible health probs like impactions?
