I haven't done it yet, but I want to experiment with an aquatic tank with a land area made from a small Sterilite container or some other small type of plastic container filled with mulch. I would weight down the container with flat stones at the bottom. Egg crate covered with Gutter Guard would be the ramp up to the container, and I'd probably have a small ramp inside of the container, too, to help keep mulch out of the water.

I switched one of my eastern muds to more of a box turtle set-up after she came down ill, and she enjoys burrying herself in the mulch. She'll come out at night to forrage in the water pan. I keep artificial plants in the water pan so that she feels safe and hiden at all times, which keeps her in the water longer. It seems to work for her.
