Cal kings are a bigger snake as an adult and have more of a variety of diet (basically will eat anything - mammals, birds, reptiles, etc..). Mountain kingsnakes have a different diet and find their prey a little different.

Arizona Mountain Kingsnakes have flatter heads that enable them to catch lizards in the cracks of rocks. Although they can be found in the same habitat at times, mostly they are found in different habitats. Primarily feed on different prey. And have different body shapes to fit their environment.

They are supposed to be different - it's not a competition.
