I use paper towel, because it tends to be the cheapest and easiest to clean. My gecko doesn't always get all his crickets eaten and they can make a mess of his tank. I used the calci-sand for several years though and never had a problem. Paper towel is a lot cheaper then calci-sand but is less visually appealing. Your gecko will stand out more against the white of paper towel though. Also, I have only heard good things about tile. It tends to be cheap and retains heat well, also with tile you just have to take them out and wash them down.
