Has anyone tried diatomaceous earth?

Has anyone tried using diatomaceous earth to control mites? For those who don't know, it's a very fine power, is completely non-toxic. It kills insects by physical means, by puncturing the waxy coating of their exoskeletons and dehydrating them.
