Even if he's hanging out lower, having a 100W bulb on top 3" above the cage still gives him huge potential to go higher (climbing under the screen with belly exposed to 100W of heat) and can lead to burning. If you use a low wattage bulb with perches higher up, there's virtually zero chance of a burn, and if he's not warm enough in the middle of the cage, he'll go up higher on his own. My biggest cages are using 60W bulbs right now (adult male panthers) with room temps around 73-75 during the day. | ||
