It is probably better than a huge tank but you need him to be able to get away from the heat if he is too hot. I would put the heat lamp or whatever on the far side of the tank and if he is up against the other side, take the heat down a little. Just be careful he doesn't look like he is trying to get away from the heat. I am no vet so take my advice for what it is. I just am telling you what I would do because nobady has responded yet.
