There are some that suck and there are cheap one that work very well and last very long. Big Apple Herp has one for $32 that we've used and it is very good....LLLreptile sells a very similar one for $26 as I recall.

Key is does it shut off in an overheat or over power situation. What wattage can it handle, and how accurately does it keep you temp. For housing a degree of accuracy is plenty...a better thermostat is needed for incubation. Yes you can pay $300 for a thermostat or ig Apple Herp has one at like $130 that is very good with a night drop and all, but you don't have to.
