Because I am anal and like to know more than the temp on the heat pad...I like to know what the cold side of the tank is really doing and the ambient air above the pad. So we use thermostats on the pads/tape/ropes, and put a probe in above the pad side and one on the cold side. But I am anal as mentioned.
