Co-doms, look hot, make babies from their hets to cheap normals, sell for a lot, and make supers that sell for more. Also make good cominations. Down side is they steadily come down in price...but you'll never not make money there.
Recessives tend to draw less money overall but hold prices very steady for years...look at albinos. There are some real expensive ones too due to supply/newness. Cons are you need 3 homozygous to get full clutch...hets give you half/half, etc. Crossing them is awesome when it works but long and tedious...snow for example. Crossing co-doms is easier as they stay visible as hets so it's easier...bumble bees are a good example.
Questions to ask...what are you planning to get out of this, rush of creating something new, rush of recreating something rare, fun of just steadily pumping out what others are too, etc. What are your financial goals short term and long term. Are you looking for a flash in the pan or do you want to be around doing this in ten years.
What morphs turn your head when you see them?
Lots to consider. In the end think it through thoroughly, then seek out quality animals from breeders you have thoroughly researched that you can trust you are getting what you paid for and they'll still be there if something goes wrong.
For us years back when we started we liked axanthics a ton and hypos so we got them. We liked albinos stability so we got them...they have a mass appeal. Later we saw Pastels and Spiders and their combos and dug the Bumblebees so we went there too, and Piebalds were too cool.
Buy cool things, make babies, sell babies, use money to wisely to expand into more types you couldn't buy in round one...welcome to the addiction. ----- Mike and David at 3-D Pythons www.3dpythons.com
