Feeding behavior: Odd or normal?

I've had my baby ball python for roughly a month, and he seems to be very reluctant to settle into a feeding schedule. Obviously snakes don't understand schedules, but I was just wondering if it was normal for such a young snake to only want to eat every 8 or so days?



Also, a lot of pictures I see of young ball pythons show them being thicker than he is as compared to length. He's roughly 18" long, and about an inch in diameter at the thickest part of his body. Would this be considered a normal girth for a very young ball python? He had been very recently hatched before I bought him a month ago.
