I'm using Eco Earth in my California Kingsnake's cage. Some folks on the kingsnake forum recommended Eco Earth as a great substrate for animals that like to burrow. My kingsnake has made several tunnels in the stuff. For some reason, he loves hiding under a dog's water dish that I insisted the pet store put in his cage even before I was ready to buy him. I bought the dish with the snake, and he still hides under it. However, he'll sometimes burrow into his substrate and disappear for a week. During shedding, he'll go into the substrate and have perfect humidity. I haven't yet decided whether to put Eco Earth in my ball python cage. I don't think she'd be much of a burrower, but she might like the humidity. If I didn't like the Repti-bark and if she didn't seem to like Repti-bark, I'd probably be willing to use Eco Earth for her.
When I first pull my kingsnake from the cage to handle or weigh him, he seems a little dirty, but it's not bad. Eco Earth looks like dirt, but the properties aren't exactly the same.

----- It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
