Zoo Med's UTHs actually work. I have been running several of these non-stop for over seven years. They are still going strong. The Exo-Terra pads barely put off enough heat to keep a polar bear happy, and they don't stick well. At 110, the snake won't burn itself, especially since you have the UTH mounted to the side. If that was on the bottom of the tank, you would have some substrate between the two, but even if not, that is not terribly hot. If your snake is too hot, he/she will thermoregulate. I.e., he will move to the other end of the tank. The UTHs are rated for a certain size cage. One reason is because bigger tanks usually have thicker glass, so more wattage is needed. Also because bigger tanks have more volume/area and more heat is needed to provide the proper ambient temperature. As long as your snake has a range of temps to choose from, he will be fine.
