The UTH is a much better choice than a heat rock. Heat rocks have a bed reputation because most people used them incorrectly. Heat rocks should never be used as a sole heat source. Heat rocks should only be used as an additional option for your reptiles. After they eat, they may like to hang out on the rock and digest. If the rock is your only heat source, the reptile has two choices. Be too hot, or be too cold. Heat rocks can be effective, if used properly. That being said, UTHs are the way to go.
