well to say the least it was not the best show I've been to. There was just a few ball python breeders there and those that were there didn't have much available as far as selection goes. Perhaps that's because most 05's have been sold thus proving that the ball market is alive and kicking. I went Sunday with the intention of picking up a small spider male and a pastel male for breeding next year. There was only 4 spider males to choose from in the whole show (not counting a couple spider's het albino). I picked up a pastel male from Gulf Coast Reptiles and a 450g reduced pattern spider male from ballroom pythons south. When popping the spider to verify sex sperm plugs popped so he may go this season, he's with a 1500g pastel female now that is on a breeding loan from Jessie Jeffcoat (we are working on several projects together) and I was able to take a pic of him aligning tails with her this morning. I will post those pics this evening when I get home. Fingers crossed on bumble's this year but for sure should have some next season.
And yes some of you know that I have been a very big critic of spiders in the past about the "wobble" head trait. None of the spiders at the show displayed this problem, however all of them when crawling if they elevated their heads too much would kinda loose thier balance and go the long way to right themselves. This is the problem that Kevin stated in the morph forum not to long ago. To me this is a very minor tradeoff for one of the most needed morphs in a breeding population. Again I'll post pics tonight probably around 9'ish so stay tuned ----- Josh Hutto
