While some males may breed at a year, their sperm production may not be reliable at that age and a load of slugs is hard on a female. Between 1 1/2 and 2 years is better for a male to start breeding, some wait until they are 2. Females (BCI) should at least be 3. If the female much larger, she could lay on the male and hurt him. Plus, keep an eye out for female aggression. -----
