soiling, there should be no issues of bacteria overload with what you are using. In my opinion, I think aspen (or other course bedding), unless more than just spot cleaned, can hold more bacteria. When a snake poos, it releases fluids as well, just spot cleaning out the poo, leaves all the fluids dried into the bedding (and who knows how far that liquid has spread into the bedding), which they will be sitting in until the whole cage is cleaned, which may be every two weeks to every 6 months, depending on the snake owner. If you clean half the cage or more every time it poos, you will probably get all the fluids, so they don't have to sit in it. It is my opinion and may not be shared. However, I do have to use aspen in only one cage, a wooden one, because I don't want the fluids to soak into the wood.
But, yes, in my opinion as well, it is smart to either bake or freeze course bedding to remove any hidden, unwanted buggies. -----
