I use newspaper too, and have not had any problems. I have no problem with spilled water dishes, although my Mojave Poss Het Hypo male is in the blue, and sitting in his dish, and water has overflowed, but that would only be a problem in a melamine or closed rack, in a Freedom Breeder rack, a spilled water dish on newpaper is just "Humidity."
