60 or 75 sounds too big for a 10 gallon. I would recommend a 40 watt red for that size. The red do get hotter than the purple night bulbs. Those purple ones really were designed for viewing light, not so much heat. I'm not sure they get as hot as the day bulbs, but it might be close.
