If a female is developing follicles she may reabsorb them if no sexual activity is encountered (among other things). But if you place her with a young male and they begin breeding you could end up with slugs. This would be a huge waste of your female.
Even though younger males may produce sperm, they produce less of it (when compared to a larger male). So, not all eggs may become fertilized. Also, a breeding male will often go off feed when breeding. So if you were hoping to get him up to a more adequate size, it may not happen.
