I would recomend useing a UTH (under tank heat pad" Get the size that will fit your tank. Also go to a hardware store and buy a lamp dimmer switch. There are no wires to mess with, you simply plug the UTH into the outlet provided on the switch and that way you can adjust the temps. Especially if your going to use a thin substrate. The UTH alone will get way to hot for your gecko. If your going to buy a good thermostat then there would be no reason to get the dimmer switch but if your not going to get a thermostat a dimmer switch is a must along with a thermometer to keep track of your substrate temps.

P.S. Save yourself some time and money and buy anything except sand as a substrate!! Paper towels or slate works the best!
