They are 36 inches long wich is actually longer I believe than the 40 gal. glass tank and is approx 16 inches wide which is also wider than the glass tank. Mine do real well in them with my biggest butter corn male at almost 5 feet long although to look at him coiled up in the tub you wouldn't think he was that big. I also keep about 2 inches of aspen in mine so they can burrow if they like. You can also make a rack to hold them that has additional head space above the tub to give them more room as well. You just build your racks so that the shelf above your tub is 6 inches from the top of the tub. You then add a middle shelf between the tub and the top shelf with a large whole cut in the middle so that the corn can crawl from the container up into the middle shelf or vice versa. Of course you need solid sides around the middle shelf but I just use 1/4 inch plywood for that while making the front piece removable if I need to get at the snake when he is in the "top bunk".
