it is my opinion that although boas are more of a wait for it to come by hunter, this is further inhanced by captivity. the boas know where the heat is or their usual comfortable spot, like your favorite spot on the couch. i have found two ways to sort of enhance the life of my snakes and to make them more active. when my snakes are large enough i build them enclosures and use heat lights. a black light stays on all the time and maintains night temps alone. during the day a white light comes on and brings up the temps for day time. i have noticed that this setup when compared to my smaller snake setup facilitates more activity. for reference i keep smaller snakes in tubs with constant temps by means of a heat pad. the other way i try to keep my snakes active is by introducing strange objects every now and then. i find although it usually occurs at night this new object gets attention and inspection by the snake. i use things such as new hides, shoe boxes, tubes, etc. adding new aspen seems to generate the need for my snakes especially my large male to burrow, pack it down, and make it how he wants it (hey any exercise is good exercise). although it is not really a bad thing that they just sit in the same spot i think that this stimulation could be benificial. a wild snake would come into contact with strange and unusual things all the time creating mental stimulation. just as a precaution, i would not suggest changing things in the snakes environment if it has not been there for a while and is not eating etc.

again this is my opinion formed through my experiences so there is always the chance that i am completely wrong.
