It comes down to what ever works well for you. With the exception of a few obvious bad choices. Some breeders use shelf liners. There is no chance of impaction with them, I have heard complaints that the stools are messier due to the fact that there is nothing to absorb the moisture, Some people use paper towls, I recomend this for babies only , adults will shred the paper with their toe nails, A lot of people use bran, also a good substrate. A lot of people doi not like it but I use washed sifted play sand. I have been using sand for over ten years now with not one case of impaction. And its easy to clean, you just need a fish net and you can scoop it daily. I know of a lot of breeders that use sand with absolutly no problems. [ Hide Replies ]
