just start from just below the vent, put the tail between your pointer finger and thumb and rub downward with your thumb with light pressure. If you feel 2 bumps you have a male, if not it is a female. Once you get the feel for that you can pop them easily. just go back upward with your thump keeping the same pressure after the 2 bumps and you will "pop" the hemiweiners out. Good luck Vinnie
