Some of you may remember the male gray rat I posted last year that had a very unique appearance, almost hypo, if he wasn't I'd be fooled. Anyway I released him back where he was collected due to his captive issues.
Now lets go back another year to 2004. My father called me one day and said he had unearthed a clutch of snake eggs. He ask if I wanted them....well of course, who wouldn't...lol. So I drove home and retrieved my prize. I had 13 eggs, of which one went bad within the first couple of days. So 12 of them hatched a few days later, and guess what? A total of 13 babies. Twins hatched out of one of those eggs.....but that is beside the point.
The first young one to pip was the one I have posted in this thread. He was much lighter than his siblings, so I decided to hold on to him. I did for a few months, and no change, so I gave him up to Will Kouns (aka ZuesS). Later Will decided to give him back as he still wasn't developing any unique characteristics.
Well now he has seemed to explode with color. He has shades of orange, red, bright yellow, light tan, and smudgy gray appearing all over. Very similar to the hypo male I had from the same area (a few hundred yards to be exact). Now I don't think this snake is at such an extreme as the original male, but there is no doubt he has influenced this young one.
I have been collecting there for many years and have never collected a gray rat in that area with no black scales, anywhere, and with a bright yellow ground color with light brown saddles. So to say the adult male was unique was an understatement. This young one in this thread is quickly approaching the same appearance. Whether or not he will be as nice isn't predictable of course, but I plan to hold on to him and see.
