Although you may have sensed some sacrcasm, he did answer all your questions, maybe not the way you expected. You have to understand, there aren't a whole lot of people in here (if any) that go out and catch wild animals for monetary reasons, especially Federally protected species. So, I think he refrained pretty well on not "lecturing" you, or flying off at the handle.
If you ask a question like, "How much does a wild caught gila go for?", you're giving the impression that you are doing so simply for money, and the hotkeepers in here don't want to hear that. They are protected for a reason, and it's that same reason you asked about, people catching and selling them. If you do find any, and decide to do anything but take pictures, you will get caught. So I'd be real careful.
