I've noticed the same thing. I bought a humidifier last year for the snake room and it kept the humidity at 45%. The winters here in northern Minnesota are wicked dry! Now I just dump water in the cage every three days or so. It doesn't take much. A square foot of soggy Aspen in a 4 x 2 cage works great.
The wrinkled scales that stick out look uncomfortable!
