i use 4'x2'x2' wooden cages for most of my adults. to heat them i use a single 25wat blacklight bulb on all the time, and a dimmed 50wat halogen on a timer for day time heat increase. this setup works well for me but makes keeping humidity a bit more difficult than a cage using heat tape or something similar, but the humidifier i have fixes the problem. you dont need both a heat pad and heat lighting if you can achieve the proper temps with either or so just decide which you prefer.
as far as the thermometers have one on each end (or just get a digital with a probe s you dont have to have two seperate units). ill include some pics of one of my cages to hopefully help.
