The norm is 7-12 days after the pre egg-laying shed. On occasion I have hade them go earlier, and later as well. But a good sign that they are ready lay is they will get really active a day or so before getting ready to lay (looking for a spot to lay).

I only use damp sphagnum moss in the nest box. And I wait until about 4-5 days after they shed before putting in the nest box.
