Tips on taking photos PLEASE HELP!!!

I have a Sony Cybershot 5.1 megapixel camera, and I just cannot get any good pics. I don't really know anything about photography, and I don't think this is a crappy camera...is it? I just don't know what I am doing wrong. Please help me. Thanks Vinnie
