When I first started getting snakes, I had a few mice, and I kept them in the pet room, in a cage that was plastic, but had a bar/wire top. My first escapee ever was gone for about three days. I noticed the mice were not in their hide with the babies. They were all huddled in the opposite end of the cage. I openned it up and low and behold, there was my yearling stuffed with pinkies. She had eaten the whole litter, I think it was 6. She couldn't get back out through the slots between the bars because she was soooooo fat!! That was the first of Houdini's escapes.
Sometimes I think about keeping mice in the room, just to catch escapees!! lol.
