hey, i have a pair of redtails and my male does this. what i believe is happening is that they dont feel secure. they feel of balance being picked up and just want a good firm grip and to be supported when held. its very easy to stop them from doing this. you just need to pick your snake up real slow and let him get a hold on you that he feels comfortable with. my female on the other hand just doesnt care. i could hang her by her tail and she'd grip the branch and just hang there. the bottom pic is how i like to hold my boas while standing up. they get to hang onto me yet i'm supporting the majority of thier body.

cheers
