I agree with Rob - it is a Texas Rat. The postocular dark stripe that stops at the mouth line is diagonostic (see Conant and Collins, pp. 353).



Looks like a fine specimen - you should rescue him from the cruel world of nature and give him a fine place to live with lots of savory rats to eat.
